The Irish Republic has the lowest percentage of evangelicals per head of population in the English speaking world! From just 10 churches in the Republic in 1980, there are now 34 churches who are part of the Association of Baptist Churches in Ireland, (86 churches in Northern Ireland). As a Mission, we have been planting churches in Ireland since 1888, the year when the Irish Baptist Home Mission was formed. (It was later merged by the churches in 1977 with the Irish Baptist Foreign Mission, to become Baptist Missions). Today, we are supporting fourteen different church planting efforts on the island of Ireland and we long to put more evangelists/church planting couples "on the ground". In Dublin alone, there are at least 15 large suburban areas with little or no gospel witness and scores of large suburbs and towns where the person and finished work of Christ are not known. PRAY to the Lord of the harvest to raise up labourers for His harvest field.
