Work summary

Mervyn leads a joint Baptist Missions/Crossworld team made up two other couples, Ernie & Nancy Tromsness and Seth & Jessica Lewis. Jessie Van Schepen completes the team. Mervyn spends most of his time with people: Door to door visitation, personal conversations, evangelistic Bible studies, literature distribution and giving out their own locally produced gospel calendars at Christmas time.(started in 01). (These calendars are now used by over 80 churches on the island). Since December 1999, Mervyn has been hosting a weekly radio programme on the local radio station, Community Radio Youghal (104fm). 'Reflections' is broadcast between 5-6pm on Sunday evenings. Since the church was formed in June 2010, Mervyn also gives time to pastoral work. Karen is a full time Mother and homemaker but is also heavily involved in the life of the church and ongoing evangelistic ministry. Leading Ladies' Bible studies, hospitality and music are her main areas of ministry.

Mervyn and Karen were married in July 1992 and have four children. They moved to Youghal in December '08 and the church was formally constituted in June 2010. We continue to reach out locally and look beyond to see under God, more churches established. This is the vision of the Association in general and of the churches in the Cork/Kerry Project, which aims to establish a Bible believing/baptistic witness in every town and suburban area where none currently exists. From May-September 2012, BM has granted the Scotts a short sabbatical, during which time Mervyn is planning to explore new and potential areas for outreach.

Bethany (23/7), Daniel(19/7), Ben(3/5) and Joshua(24/6).

We like going for walks as a family with our dog Bonnie and Karen and I enjoy gardening and reading.

Since 2001, we have produced an evangelistic calendar for distribution by churches throughout Ireland. What began as an idea to provide something for local use has led to over 70,000 calendars being printed and distributed by over 100 different gospel churches on the island. Mervyn has also helped with producing an evangelistic DVD called 'Still Looking', an evangelistic CD called 'Hope & Peace', and a special give away 'Christmas Meditations' CD, produced in co-operation with RBC Ministries. Since 1999 we have also been involved in a major outreach to the rural community at the annual National Ploughing Championships and Mervyn occasionally speaks at Munster Christian Camps.

Since the church in Youghal constituted in June 2010, we continue to reach out to the town of Youghal and increasingly into Co. Waterford in places like Aghlish, Ardmore, Cappoquin, Clashmore, Dungarvan, Lismore, Tallow and Villerstown. For initial contact we use the "4You" magazine produced by Aontas. Many of these places and all their surrounding hinterlands have little or no gospel witness of any sort! Pray that we will grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. Pray that our children will come to faith in Christ too and grow in their love for Him. We are grateful for the privilege of serving God in this area and look to Him to build His Church for His glory.
